Landetta's Longevity
The New York Giants just signed 44-year old punter Sean Landetta, who last played for them 13 years ago.
Among Landetta's noteworthy achievements, he is the last active NFL player who:
- was on the Giants' 1990 Super Bowl team
- was on the Giants' 1986 Super Bowl team
- was in the original Tecmo Bowl for the Nintendo Entertainment System
- played for the USFL
Man, that is old. He won his first Super Bowl when current Giants Quarterback Eli Manning was in kindergarten.
This is just the 3,782nd sign of the season that the Giants are in trouble. The TIMES ran a front page article last week in which the reporter consulted with *body language experts* about Coughlin's and Manning's actions during the team's loss (after a 21-0 lead) to the Titans the previous Sunday. That seems to me a sure sign of the apocalypse.
Vince Young's body language from the same game, in case you're interested, revealed that he was confident and in control, an assessment which I would say was confirmed in the Titans' victory over the Colts on Sunday. Take that, Mannings. I *heart* VY.

Seriously, though, I think Eli Manning's body language and generally bitchy behavior is fairly well discussed and documented, at least among Giants fan. You know, after bad plays, his fault or otherwise: the shrugs, the whiny face, etc...

I don't know what Simmons mentioned, but independently I think most Giants fan notice the Eli Skywalker look when Eli fucks up a 3rd and 14 by overthrowing a receiver, or when somebody drops one of his passes. I wonder if it's psychologically tough on Eli that Peyton is so much doper than him, or if it's still dope that he's a starting quarterback for the New York Giants.
As an aside, do you think Jeremy Shockey is underutilized? I feel like he does so much in terms of blocking, but then I wonder if they should throw him more passes.
Max:
I don't really follow the Giants any more. I have no opinion.
