Something Gay In The Air Tonight

When I watch this clip from the pilot episode of the original Miami Vice I can't help but think that Rico looks like he's jealous that his, um, partner Sonny won't let go of his previous, straight life.

Really, if I told you that was the plot and you'd never heard of the show, you would find it entirely plausible. Which is extra-funny because those guys were like the epitome of 80's studliness.

(Fleshed-out from a comment I left on Nick's blog, where Miami Vice, the film, scored an A-)

What is your point in saying this? Are you implying that there is something "wrong" with the show, the actors, gays and lesbians, all of the above? Let me just state this, there is nothing "wrong" with gays and lesbians. They deserve respect and full human rights afforded any person based on their race, religion, or gender. Thank you.

George:

I find the contrast between the gay subtext and the actual plot to be amusing.

I'm perfectly fine with gay people.

And I don't think it's any more sacrosanct than heterosexuality, which is also damn funny.
