IMDB for Music

Discogs.com is a very thorough cross-listing of artists and recordings, including producers. The display is a little weird (album, song, label, year ... but no "group"?), but it's definitely worth checking out.

Either this is the best-kept secret on the web or I'm just not as plugged-in as I give myself credit for.

update allmusic is another dope site. (Thx Keesey.)

Have you seen allmusic.com?

I've known about discogs for a few years... it's good at some genres of music, but it's not nearly as comprehensive as IMDB.

IMDB is quite a site, as the other commenter said, this isn't comprehensive, and most of all, well laid-out as IMDB. But it is neat to see. I think this site would be neat to get a quick "career at a glance" background of some of music's behind the scenes people who collaborate, produce, or write for different artists, such as Billy Preston (who performed on many great classic rock records), Timbaland (who produced a bunch of rap albums), or Daniel Lanois or Brian Eno (who produced a bunch of rock albums).
