Best. Commercial. Ever.
The Honda "cog" commercial is just meticulous: video.
Job commercials also resonate with me; then again, it's just a rich subject. CareerBuilder's "monkey" ads make me laugh every damn time.
I also love the original Monster.com ad and, having worked at an ad agency, adore its parody: "When I grow up, I want to work in advertising".
"I want to work like a dog and bust my ass for a $1500 raise." Yep, that was me. Goodbye, advertising. Deciding that web development would be a career, instead of just a hobby, was one of the smartest moves I ever made.
Also, this Michael Jordan commercial side-by-side with game footage ruins the surprise of the video, but highlights the amazing choreography.
Childhood foods, all grown up
I'm not sure what that means, but as a kid I hated spicy food. Now I love it. I also hated beer and coffee, but I think both are decent.
Conversely, I eat string cheese all the time and whenever guests see it, they are like kids again: "OMG! I haven't had that in years!" Note to self: buy some crazy straws too.
Oddly, I was just thinking about changing tastes in food earlier this week. And my thoughts involved cheese too, but sort of the opposite progression. As a kid, my taste for cheese was limited mostly to grilled cheese sandwiches and mac & cheese. I couldn't understand why people thought that "fancy" cheeses were so great. This week, as I replenished my supply of fresh mozzarella and also attended a wine & cheese party, I realized how far I'd come. I also realized how my views on spinach have changed -- as a kid, I hated it, now I'm a big fan of many dishes that include it.
I was into string cheese for a while in college (easy study snack, since it's snack-sized and not messy), but not so much now. Still, I can relate to how tasty it is and should not just be reserved for kids.

Spinach, brussels sprouts, broccoli -- I never minded it, esp. if it had a sauce.
Lima beans grossed me out, though -- and still do. There's something mealy about their texture.

Posted by: Chad Day on June 16, 2006 11:39 AM | permalinkI just saw an ad that really caught my attention last night on the Sci-Fi channel. It was a Budweiser ad, of all things. I can't find the ad on their website anywhere (bad Budweiser marketing, bad!).
I'll just describe the ad as "Fukiyama Surprise."
If I have a copy of the ad on my TiVo, I'll rip it off and post it to YouTube and spread the link. It's a great ad for the Sci-Fi channel audience, IMHO. :-)
Believe it or not, I'm not into Sci-Fi. But I'll gladly check it out.

the girl who says "and not get paid a goddamn dime for any of it .." is just spot on. the voice, the head movements .. several of the other ones were fantastic too. it's amazing how they nailed that kind of stuff.
Posted by: Chad Day on June 19, 2006 1:14 PM | permalinkOkay, after emailing the folks at Budweiser, they corrected my failing memory: the ad is called "Nagafuki Surprise" not "Fukiyama Surprise" (which is why Googling and searching YouTube didn't turn it up, argh).
Here's the YouTube link for the ad:
