Congrats, Dan!
My brother graduated from college:

Most people would have given up; he didn't. Rock on.
No idea; the only thing I could Google was a pledge to be environmentally conscious in your post-grad career.
Posted by: Joe Grossberg on May 25, 2006 3:28 PM | permalinkI figured that environmentalism was most likely, but Wiki says that it could be one of a dozen things:

Maybe he intends to drive safely.
Posted by: Od-ll on May 25, 2006 5:06 PM | permalinkI sure hope so! He's driving from Iowa to San Francisco right now.
Posted by: Joe Grossberg on May 25, 2006 5:23 PM | permalinkHe's the person who I would have guessed "least likely to take 10 years to finish college" when we were in high school. Motherfuckers be changing, dog.
Posted by: ChuckJerry on May 25, 2006 5:55 PM | permalinkYeah, but he might have gotten votes for "least ready for college", no? He is a late bloomer, pretty much.
Posted by: Joe Grossberg on May 26, 2006 8:01 AM | permalinkHow old is he? 27? I'll be older than him when I finally get my BS, and I was my class salutatorian. I had done one semester at a community college back in 1997. That was about the last time I saw anyone in my class, and they were upset that I wasn't at a real school.
Needless to say, I don't think I'm going to any reunions.
Posted by: Od-ll on May 28, 2006 3:14 PM | permalinkEh, I didn't go to my 10th year reunion. I was too lazy to drive up to NJ for back-to-back weekends.
Posted by: Joe Grossberg on May 28, 2006 6:00 PM | permalinkCynical comments follow...
Why do people get so into class reunions? The only way I would have gone is if I was single and wanted to see which women were there and still single. The people I want to stay in touch with from high school, I have. And with Friendster, MySpace, etc... it's easy enough to find people (that want to be found).
I wonder if some people go to show off their changes - that is, are successful professionally, financially, have "grown up" physically, etc...
Then again, I wasn't extra involved with clubs and sports in high school, so maybe I didn't make those kind of connections that people like to follow up on 10 years later.
Posted by: max on May 30, 2006 10:06 AM | permalinkI don't think I would even *remember* anyone from high school that I didn't already keep in touch with. Of course, going to 5 high schools in a 4 year span and having to finish my diploma by going to night school likely has something to do with it.
But I do have a terrible memory, I can't remember people/names/faces from a couple years ago, much less 10. It was fun and I'm in a much better place than anyone could have predicted (probably would have been voted most likely to end up in jail or working as a car mechanic), but I feel no need to go back and show people who I don't even know anyway that I'm successful.
Max:
Don't tell me you're not the least bit curious what people are up to. You're the dude who sends the "whatever happened to XYZ" emails every now and then.
Posted by: Joe Grossberg on May 30, 2006 11:24 AM | permalinkWhen have I sent a "whatever happened to x..." email?
Posted by: max on May 30, 2006 6:23 PM | permalinkLOL. Just LOL, man.
If you really save as many emails as you say you do, just search for "Whatever happened to" ... seriously.
Posted by: Joe Grossberg on May 30, 2006 7:18 PM | permalinkhere's my catch-22 situation with high school alumni:
I'd very curious to find out whatever happened to _____ (fill in the blank), but not curious enough to see them in person at a reunion.
that's why sites like frienster and myspace are so great, because you can view people's profiles. but as Max said, that only applies to people who *want* their info shared.
Posted by: Daffy on May 31, 2006 3:41 PM | permalinkPeople who are interested in remaining fairly anonymous to people they knew in their "former lives" as teenagers, and would not register their info on these sites, are probably not the types of people who are likely to show up at high school reunions anyway, I would think.

Yeah, they might just not be very computer literate.
