Pakistan Earthquake: Awful Aftermath Averted?

Weren't tens of thousands of people supposed to freeze and/or starve to death this winter, in Pakistan's remote northeast, where an earthquake left 3 million people homeless? If so, where is the coverage? This wasn't exactly an obscure and unnoticed event. If not, what went right? Was the winter that much milder than expected? Was the aid — national, international and sadaqat — sufficient?

The winter was much milder than expected, even though the aid was still insufficient and poorly organized. That allowed a lot of people to remain on their land, and lessened some of the refugee factor.
