My New Linkblog

Following the lead of my friend Deadprogrammer, I now have a Linkblog (sidebar) that will contain one- or two-sentence links to cool sites I've found. The longer posts will go here, on the main page.

I've created separate feeds: links (atom) and links (RSS) for subscribers.

It's still under construction, so pardon the dust (e.g. the site search only covers my main site, for now).

I'm still debating whether or not I should integrate both sets of content on the front page.

Let me know if there are other features you'd like to see.

update I'm thinking sidebar, instead of separate pages. That'll distinguish them visually, and be convenient for people who (gasp!) actually visit the site, instead of just reading the feeds.

Comments: My New Linkblog

You know, I've been using del.icio.us a lot lately, and have thought about using it to power a linkblog. del.icio.us even has a feature that'll post to your blog daily, if you trust them with your username and password ...

So, suppose I don't trust them -- I can still create a cronjob that pulls the previous days links and posts them as a single entry to my blog. That might be kinda neat.

I already use del.icio.us, but as a way of storing links for myself. It seems like it'd be too much of a pain to have to manage two accounts.

Also, there already is an RSS feed created for each del.icio.us account -- e.g. http://del.icio.us/rss/dossy -- so I can already subscribe to that.

In fact, you're now the 8th del.icio.us account whose RSS I subscribe to! :)

Why manage two accounts? If you don't want the entirety of your del.icio.us in your linkblog, then just pick a tag (i.e., "linkblog" or "public") and throw that tag onto the list of tags as you're bookmarking if you want the entry to be included in your linkblog.

Then, when you write the code to transfer entries from del.icio.us to your linkblog, just have it filter on that tag.

Yes, subscribing to del.icio.us RSS is great; thanks for subscribing to my feed. :-) I tend to only subscribe to http://del.icio.us/rss/popular ... I'm actually realizing how badly I need to start /removing/ feeds from my aggregator because I just can't keep up with the volume of traffic any more.

No more comments! Either someone has violated Godwin's Law, I'm tired of the discussion or, most likely, the ten-week window has closed. You can, however, contact me through email.
