Six Feet Under Finale: The Song

Kottke says "poignant"; I say "haunting" best describes the bittersweet finale of the HBO Series.

I didn't feel nearly the same attachment to the characters as Kottke or Karol ("I just watched it again. Amazing. I think next time I can watch it and not cry. We'll see.") did.

I only watched (most of?) the first season, because I don't have HBO and those boxed sets are obnoxiously expensive ($99 for each season). And, to be honest, death is not a subject I'm terribly comfortable with. (Maybe I should watch the rest of that series for that very reason?) But that last episode, or rather its 15 minute afterword, was some of the most powerful television I've ever seen. It still blew me away.

Anyhow, here is the video for the song that accompanies Claire's drive from California; it's chilling and affirming, like the series itself.

Well, I was dissapointed by the lack of flying cars.

Eh, I think they played it very sensibly.

Trying to guess fashion, architecture, technology and the like 20 years out (never mind 80 years out) is for fools.

I watched all of the first three seasons really closely together on HBO On Demand so I got really into it really quickly.

I thought the epilogue was really astounding. I was a little surprised they didn't give similar treatment to the mid-level characters, Billy, Vanessa, and George in particular, but I really was mesmerized by the end.

I don't know if the series is really *about* death. It is and it isn't, but that's like limiting Boogie Nights to a movie about porn, to use an analogy that you used just today.

Since when is my email address required to comment? If this is what MT 3.2 is all about, then count me out.

Jerry:

Emails in comments are no longer required; somehow the upgrade flipped that switch.

No more comments! Either someone has violated Godwin's Law, I'm tired of the discussion or, most likely, the ten-week window has closed. You can, however, contact me through email.
