Yes, a lighter pool cue results in a better break, but it's not because K = MV2.

This reminds me of a cooking class where the instructor said coarsely diced garlic browns better because of its increased surface area.

The same reason baseball players cork their bat: you can swing/shoot it at a higher speed. Then again, it's a lighter mass hitting the ball. So maybe it's just perception/superstition.
