I Saw "Saw"

The other DVD I watched this weekend was the horror/thriller "Saw". It was a good movie, if flawed, but damn he copied a lot from "Se7en":

  • psycho killer
  • who is as preachy as he is twisted
  • and chooses moral degenerates as his victims
  • designing elaborate plots
  • for having the victims kill themselves
  • but personally witnesses all the deaths

And then there are things like the cinematography and its dark, dirty and wet motif. The use of photographs as a means of communication characters. An obsessed man's workroom. The killer narrowly escaping the cops' grasp. The enormous plot twist at the end.

I mean, you could pick a worse movie to ape, and I was definitely excited (though it faced after I stopped suspending disbelief and mused over some plot holes), but sheesh. Why not just call it "Ei8ht"?
