Killing Federalism to Save Terri Schiavo

Seriously, how is this Florida "right to die" case under the jurisdiction of Federal legislators? The Supreme Court has already refused to hear that case, sending it back to state courts.

Comments: Killing Federalism to Save Terri Schiavo

This is kind of like when the voters of Oregon decided to allow one the 'right to die.' It's not just any suicide - there are restrictions (like being terminally ill with less than x months to live).

In that case, the federal government stepped up and made it much more difficult to get the drugs used to do it properly.

On a different, but related subject, the fact that they wanted to do a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage is funny - not only does it stomp on states' rights, it also would be the second time a freedom was taken away in the document (the first being the 21st amendment, which was obviously repealed).

I hope this fundie meddling is just a fad and that the people of this country aren't truly anti-progressive.

I'm sorry, were you under some illusion that anyone gives a damn about State's rights? If anything, the Republicans (who I refuse to call conservative, as they are unworthy of the complement) are just as big a proponent of the nanny laws as Democrats, if not more so, and the only difference being who and what they want to meddle with.

No more comments! Either someone has violated Godwin's Law, I'm tired of the discussion or, most likely, the ten-week window has closed. You can, however, contact me through email.
