Security Through Obscurity Does Not Work

This is reminder #3408789375937497 that storing information in plain text, without password protection, on your server means it will get read eventually. And if you're a political, or otherwise controversial, organization, you need to take extra precautions.

Friends,

First, thanks to those who came to CPAC - the event was not without bumps or bruises, but a success overall. A special thank you to those that who blogged from/about the events without getting all the swag. It was a pleasure to meet many of you.

And, some bad news/apology. One of you just forwarded an email that some jackass sent to a list of the bloggers. First, *please* don't "reply all" as that just inflames the problem. It looks like someone pulled a link out of the application page and found the text file. I'm trying to wake someone up to nix the page.

In the meantime - if any more emails come through - please forward them to me, again - *don't* reply to all.

Again, sorry for the confusion.

Best,

Mike

On a whim, I applied to be one of the bloggers at CPAC. I didn't get a response (jeez ... is it that obvious that I'm not conservative?), but I did get spam. Insult plus injury — nice job, guys!

I'm glad I gave them my Hotmail account instead of my personal (Yahoo) one.
