An Awful Approach to Drug Sensibility

I personally think that pot should be legalized (at least in the sense that alcohol is), but didn't people learn anything from the backlash against "Heather has Two Mommies"?
Trying to demystify pot in kids' minds ain't gonna go over real well. I can see the Fox News segments now.
Only someone who's high would wear those outifts while they were riding bikes.

Posted by: Joe Grossberg on January 24, 2005 7:35 PM | permalinkFWIW, the Two Mommies book was written as a real book, not just a political statement. Before it became so sensational, they had already gotten several copies at the school my mother works at. Not because they had an agenda, but because they had several students with two mommies. It had a purpose.
And frankly, if you are smoking marijuana in the same house as your children, shouldn't you do so thoughtfully, and address it honestly with your children? If you're not smoking pot, well then the book really doesn't make any sense.

Posted by: on January 24, 2005 11:28 PM | permalinkRelax, calm down, it's just a friggin' kid's book! Yeah, so they try and downplay pot use for the sake of the kids. The book's been out for a little while now and I haven't seen anything about it show up on Fox News, yet, not that timeliness is important for conservative "news", just feigned outrage.
Bottom line: this is way better than some 3rd grade kid finding out through his or her DARE officer what's going on at night with their parents and thinking his or her folks are criminals who should be jailed because of it.
Posted by: Danny G on January 25, 2005 11:42 AM | permalinkIs pot a mystery for kids these days? Wow. My biggest mystery as a kid was what happens to the crap when you flush the toilet. (Still haven't quite figured it out, but stopped caring.)
Posted by: S on January 27, 2005 11:48 AM | permalinkI can tell you that I had a lot of misconceptions about pot, having grown up in a rabidly anti-drug household. And, as an adult, I've heard ridiculous anti-marijuana claims made by peers who should know better.
