It's almost as if the cover were designed by someone who really hates the authors. The goofy images on the side ("Starbuzz Coffee"? geez) just make it even worse.

Well I think the message we can all take away from this is that if you use good design patterns you will be sexy.

I guess it's supposed to work the same way my Axe body spray (doesn't) work...

I like it. Definitely more relevant than a line drawing of an arbitrary animal. I wouldn't say "hot blonde chick" though, more "'00s geek-girl." The hat tip to 1950s style social behaviour guides is funny and clearly positions the book for an audience of design pattern newbies.

When I was in college there were posters for banks that looked just like this. Some hot girl all happy about opening her bank account.

I think they also had ones with guys.

Well the line drawings of animals is sort of a precedented (albeit arbitrary) theme.
