Cheney knew exactly what he was doing. He was calling Edwards' Senate attendance record into question, and underscored that with his statement about not having met the Senator before.

IT DOESN'T MATTER if it's true or not. It'll make a soundbite that the GOP faithful will latch onto, and they will all ignore any rebuttal. Facts aren't as important as making an impression.

Yeah, like calling Kerry the most liberal man in the senate or saying Gore had claimed he invented the internet.
