The Tragedy of the Office Kitchen

It seems that, no matter where I work, the refrigerator full of spoiled food and sink cluttered with coffee mugs (and we have a dishwasher!) become a great illustration of the "tragedy of the commons".

No one's held personally responsible for the cleanliness and the negative effects of the clutter are spread widely, instead of confined to the perpetrator. Result: our poor receptionist's duties include wading through that filth.

Either that, or people are real slobs and treat their own kitchen space much worse than I realized.

Comments: The Tragedy of the Office Kitchen

My cousin runs a cleaning business. He watched me at home making coffee without using a teaspoon and observed, "you can always tell the IT kitchens, they have that special look."
