Scorched Earth: 3D

The classic freeware video game, Scorched Earth, now has a 3D version.

I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, this gives new life to an old classic. On the other, the bare-bones graphics and sound were part of its charm — like the utter lack thereof in Zork and Nethack.

Compare and contrast ...

Comments: Scorched Earth: 3D

The only good remakes of Scorched Earth were Death Tank and Death Tank/Zwei. They were hidden games in the Sega Saturn versions of Powerslave and Duke Nukem 3D respectively. It used the multitap so you could do up to 7 or 8 people (don't remember), and was realtime (you had a delay between shots).. It did have the store feature inbetween matches. Death Tank/Zwei had some crazy special matches that could happen.

Yep, it's as fun as the old one.
