Programming Dogma and Debate

The Fishbowl has a nice discussion on what to make of the diverse, and often contradictory, theories about programming, such as eXtreme Programming.

I don't think I fall into any particular school of thought, but I do value the ideas — less for their specific suggestions than the interesting perspectives they provide. If I get stuck on a problem, or a project is taking too long, I can approach it from a different angle. If the current approach isn't working, aybe test-driven development will. Or mapping out a detailed plan. Or maybe the one-feature-at-a-time approach of XP.
