Electoral Innumeracy

Politics and numbers just don't mix. Probably the only thing worse than political polls (except actual elections) is the interpretations they get.
My brother told me that it was verboten to cite statistics in his high school debates, because kids would just make shit up to support their arguments.
I wouldn't put that past many adults either.
But I don't think the lede, "U.S. Jews would overwhelmingly support any major Democratic candidate over President Bush if the election were held today" is accurate for a 60% / 40% split.
Never mind GWB's 17% showing among Jewish voters in 2000.
I guess a headline like "Shrinking Majority of U.S. Jews Prefer a Democrat to Bush" doesn't sell newspapers.
