Hi, Mom?

As this Onion article about a blogger discovery that his mother found his "computer diary" points out, the web isn't as anonymous as you think.
It's why I don't post under an alias. I think a pseudonym only grants temporary anonymity, leading to recklessness that's later regretted, when someone connects the real person and the nickname. So, I'd rather not fool myself.
And it's also why I omit information that I want to keep private — intimate details of my relationships (girlfriend, friends and family), the specifics of my work and naughty behavior on my part — that others gleefully share in their online journals.
This blog is a lot more boring as a consequence (believe me, the Great Stories category would be a lot bigger), but it's a tradeoff I'm willing to make.
I saw that and totally thought of you. I think that anonymity is pretty hard, though I am sure some ppl are so vague they might achieve it.
