There is now an AOL Instant Messenger client that runs inside emacs, the editor / environment of choice for most Linux and Unix geeks.

For now though, I'll stick with Gaim, because it supports Yahoo, the IM client we use at work.

" the editor / environment of choice for most Linux and Unix geeks"

hm. I am a linux/unix geek and none of my peers or coworkers can be labeled by this statement. I think maybe you're generalizing too much here.

I don't think I'm generalizing too much, at all.

Of course, I have no official study of this, but I've certainly gotten the impression that almost all *nix geeks use emacs or vi, with the former having more users.

I've come across a few who use pico and one coworker who uses moleskine (sp?), plus there is Komodo and some Java IDEs, but I think those are still the exceptions.

I'm curious to hear what your own impressions are, but I stand by my assertion -- that a plurality, if not a majority, of Unix/Linux geeks primarily use emacs.
