Worst Team in the 2003-2004 NBA? LA

update Brand and Magette are staying. Olowokandi and Piatkowski have left. Miller and Odom want out, but are restricted free agents. Not as bad as it could have been, but that's still a big loss to a team that wasn't great to begin with. They still have no point guard and a rookie at center.

update ESPN's Chad Ford has an article on The Great Clippers Exodus if you're a paid subscriber (I'm not). They also seem to have removed the backdoor I mentioned earlier.

The LA Clippers, that is.

According to recent reports, Mike Olowokandi (12.3 ppg) is going to Minnesota, Elton Brand (18.5) to Miami, Corey Magette (16.8) is headed to Utah and Andre Miller will depart for Denver (13.6). That represents 2/3 of the team's scoring, 3/4 of its rebounding and 2/3 of its assists. Assuming their other free agents don't depart (including Odom, Rooks and Eric Piatkowski), and they don't make any big additions, their starting lineup for next year will look something like:

C Chris Kaman
F Sean Rooks
F Lamar Odom
G Marko Jaric
G Quentin Richardson

Ouch.

Ouch indeed! The only one worthy of being a starter is Odom, and that is assuming he stays there.

I am always perplexed that with the plethora of cities begging for NBA teams, and the consistend strength of the Lakers since they got to LA god-knows-how-long ago, that the Clippers have not been moved. There are plenty of cities that would love to buy the franchise rights and start from scratch.
