Mozilla.org Redesign

Great job with the new Mozilla homepage. I can actually see where the fuck I want to go, and visitors' focus is actually drawn toward what the vast majority of them want to do: downoading the browser. This is a big improvement over its old locations: under Testing > Releases and in a poorly highlighted box on the side.
Of course, the internal pages are still the old ones; they look ugly and are clearly not designed with simplicity in mind.
Does you average Windows user know what Win32 means? If they even know what version of Windows they use, they're probably in the top third in computer literacy. Why not change the sentence to "If you use Windows and don't understand the other options, then download this version" and put it in boldface?
(Yes, I know Mozilla is not for "your average Windows user", but there is a lot of cognitive dissonance. After all, why else would they quote Joel Spolsky as saying, "Firebird is likely to soar past IE"?)
Also, it makes no sense that the link "Mozilla 1.4" and the images beneath it go to different places. Yes, I understand that they're screenshots, but that is still unexpected. Based on the location, they look like an alternative link to the downloads page. And adding a verb, so it's "Download Mozilla 1.4", would be that much better. That may sound redundant or obvious, but it's not — how do you know what lies behind the link — information about the software, links to download it or something else entirely? You don't.
So, overall, I think it's imperfect but a big improvement. Now, if only Slashdot and Python would get their websites out of the stone age ....
If only Mike Keesey would get HIS website (www.dinosauricon.com) out of the stone age...

The redesign is pretty and looks much better.

You have no idea what you're talking about. He just redesigned it within the past year, so it's more usable and accessible. I think it looks like a touch-screen kiosk now.

The new mozilla site looks pretty, but I don't find it as usable as the old one. It loads slower because of the pretty pictures, and stuff is scattered about. The organization is not obvious: the downloads are mixed with the news and status updates and screenshots.
Beauty isn't the only measure of goodness.
