You Can Tell a Lot from a Man's Code
This is a pretty cute page, called The Evolution of a Programmer, as seen by the "Hello, World" programs they write.
For the uninitiated, traditionally, the first program you write with a new language is one that prints "Hello, World" to the screen. Then, you get into the task at hand. It's the programmatic equivalent of a mic check.
